"FOREST ENCAMPMENT"
DESCRIPTION:
Three rawhide lodges are nestled under ten towering trees made of solid brass with a verde patina finish. A peaceful gathering of people of various tribes depicts the work and play of a quiet village. Horses run between the lodges, chiefs gather to talk and pass the peace pipe, a young warrior and maiden arrange their wedding with her father, children are at play, men are engaged in preparations for a hunt, and women prepare a meal. Figures inside the lodges cast interesting shadows on the sloping walls.
Three ceremonial drums on the bottom are encircled by an intricate pattern of illuminated glass portraying the symbols for rivers, mountains, "Stairway to Grandfather" and frog feet. Encircling the entire scene is an array of patterns in vibrant stained glass, reminiscent of classic basket patterns, and conveying the idea of the circle of the basket holding all that is dear to the people. All the designs incorporated in "Forest Encampment" blend together to convey the message of completeness in the circle of life: living in harmony with nature, appreciation of other peoples, connection between the generations, and being aware of our place in the world. Our generation is here for a while. Our ancestors camped under these trees, and our children's children should be able to enjoy them in their time.
At 48" diameter by almost 48" high, this chandelier is destined to become a strong focal point in a large home, lodge, or corporate building. The main structure is oxidized steel. All the patterns for the illuminated glass are hand cut, as are all the figures and trees. This chandelier requires a ceiling height of at least 13 feet high in order to be installed at the proper height.
It is my hope that the viewer will not only appreciate the beauty of the piece, but will contemplate the message it brings as well.
