In my one-of-a-kind commissioned series of original chandelier designs based on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, this chandelier begins where the expedition itself began--in the Presidential office of Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson was not only an architect of buildings, but of the country. I based this chandelier on that background, the architectural foundations of the nation that was broadened and strengthened with the Lousiana Purchase and the resulting Expedition.

The structure of this unique chandelier is made of solid bronze, with the blocks being hand carved directly into the metal. Inscribed around the perimeter wall are the names of all the individuals who were on the expedition, and the name of Thomas Jefferson, with a quote from his letter to Congress: "...To the Western Ocean."

The bottom of the chandelier is the most spectacular aspect, with a map drawn by Captain Clark, intricately cut from a single piece of solid bronze. Overlaying the map is an extraordinary panel of transluscent solid jade, cut from a boulder in western Washington state. This jade panel has the colors of the western forests, the Rocky Mountain ridges, the grassland prairies east of the mountains and the verdant valleys of the Great Plains. This piece can never be duplicated, and is an inspiring piece of natural art set into the perfect frame, the map of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
